C64 Memories
Synth Sample 9
Yesterday I awoke from an unusual dream with a memory and
a mission. In the dream, I was playing a Commodore 64 song version of
Tubular Bells. I got up, and went to the computer. With the help
of Google, I started looking for it. For those of you old enough
to have lived through the C64 craze, Tubular Bells was one of 9 songs that
made up SYNTH SAMPLE, an AMAZING (at the time) piece of music, that started
circulating the BBS's in the late 80s. In it's day, the C64 was a
great computer musician, but these 9 songs were not part of a game or
anything. We didn't know what they were. They just appeared in
one stand alone program with no credit or purpose.... but they were a hit.
I listened to it over and over and over as a young teen.
When Halloween came, I even played one of the tunes out my window all night,
because it was a song used in some horror film. The Exorcist I think.
Anyway - I found a Windows version online that retains
the original quality and memory. It's a SID file, so it'll need a
special player.
LINK: c64/Synth_Sample.sid
The SID files contains all nine songs in one file.
If you have a SID player, use the [+] or [-] keys to move between songs.
Enjoy!

Now finally, we know the author, the purpose and the full
memory. If you remember SYNTH SAMPLE, this is the guy:
