It is indeed a strange task, to have to write a brief biography to
allow Internet surfers to learn about me.
It's not often people are forced to evaluate who they are, at least in enough detail to
create a text file. The first thing you'll learn about me, is that I
ramble on in text. It's a habit, and one I won't be breaking here.
Feel free to fall asleep at any time.
Actually, my full name is "John Jeffrey Harry
Goebel", with the John coming from my father, but because nobody wanted a
"Junior" or JJ or other similar nickname. I have always been called Jeff. The
Harry is my Grandfather's name, and... well, nobody in today's world really likes to
admit to being a Harry. (grin)
Goebel, for those who don't know me in any fashion other than
email, is pronounced (at least by my family) as "go-bul". Other Goebel's
pronounce it "go-bell", "goey-bul" and "ger-bel". Who can
figure out the Germans (giggle).
I
am 43, and live in Waterloo Ontario, a nice city an hour away from
Toronto. I was born in Georgetown. A small town
outside Toronto, where my family has lived for all my life and a few generations before
me on my mother's side. I attended
Acton High School, a
small school of only 700 students, because it was worth the drive. In school, I
developed my strange sense of humour, and interests in magic, photography,
computers (on the Commodore PET), and writing.
Actually, I try very hard not to be a real geek in front of the
computer 24 hours a day. Note from the pictures I do NOT have tape on my glasses, and I
do not wear a pocket protector.
I enjoy doing things with people, and I can be convinced to try
just about anything by a friend with a smile... but most of the time, I just spend
viewing things. I love to watch TV, movies, stand-up comedy, plays and just about
anything else. I even enjoy just sitting on a bench watching people pass by. As a hobby,
you might say I observe. I am a spectator, but as with any human, my likes and interests
change as I grow older and more immature.
I do not smoke, and have given up drinking after one night of
way to many shooters in a two hour period during a rather competitive round of
9-ball over 15 years ago. Do you know Yeagermeisters?
I have two sisters that live
in BC, and a niece Mykenzie Kendrick. (picture)
If you'd like to know more, or experience my sarcastic and
emotionless cruel style of humour, send me some email
with the words "I am a twit, make fun of me at my expense" and your wish will
be granted.
I have a
fast "always on" high speed
internet connection.

I'm
single.
Am I right for you?
- I was never sent to visit the school principle.
- I've never been inside a police car or police station.
- I cry during "Joan of Arcadia" (TV show), and once during the original Simpson's episode with Santa's little helper.
- I like to watch Star Trek, all versions, but I don't know the episodes by name, nor do I have a costume.
- I do not believe Jesus was anything but a very smart creation after the fact, but agree religion serves a valuable purpose, and do not argue with people who believe different...
unless they want to.
- I'd be open to a church if they're not the kind that kills those who disagree. I'm still searching for one.
- I've never been great at expressing my own emotions, but I feed off those around me, and strive to make them happy. Viewing a smile changes me.
- I don't like to be told off, and am very sensitive about they way it happens. Abnormally so.
- I was on a first name basis with the school librarian.
- I don't like yelling, of any kind.
- I like to smile, but don't particularly like my smile.
- I don't regret life choices, if I make a decision I'm happy with at the time.
- I prefer doing something rather than standing around deciding where to
do.
- People say I'm difficult to feed. Finicky. I say you just have to learn what I like.
- I'm not a fan of drunks, and would prefer to eat without your cigarette smoke in my face.
- I've only recently started reading books again, and am enjoying it, but I take my time.
- I own 7 different ways to record a TV show, and hardly ever watch live TV.
- There are at least 6 computers within 100 feet of me now, all turned on, and connected to each other, and the Internet.
- Almost everything I own is newer than 10 years old.
- I own a few ties, but they're all either plain or decorated with cartoon characters.
- My freezer contains a lot more than my fridge.
- I buy more brand names than house brands or generic products.
- I eat chocolate almost every day, but not nuts.
- I have never had a hot beverage, like Tea of coffee.
- I am almost always on time, so much so that you can start to worry after 5 minutes.
- I have owned many calculator watches.
- I don't remember names, but I'm excellent at voices and OK with faces.
- I hardly ever call people by their names, and when I do, it feels weird to me.
- I am not offended by coarse language, but choose to swear minimally.
- Orange is my favourite colour, but I don't have the nerve to drive an orange car.
- I drive a red car, always newer than 5 years old.
- I go to bed often at 10pm, but almost always before 11.
- I wake up quickly, and usually within 10 minutes of the same time each morning.
- In the right mood, I can walk for 5 hours, but I hate to stand for 15 minutes.
- I hardly ever get angry, and it drives people nuts.
- I can be devil's advocate, and debate against my belief if it helps to do so.
- Given the choice, I prefer to be the one who drives.
- Clocks that tick loudly can drive me nuts.
- My pizza of choice is Pizza Hut deep dish, with a Pepsi.
- My beef of choice is The Keg, baseball sirloin.
- I like Harvey's for the pickles, Wendy's for the chicken, and McDonalds for the Egg Mc Muffin.
- I have never watched more than 10 minutes of a hockey game, and don't know the rules to football.
- The only video games I play are cribbage, billiards and pinball.
- I try not to litter.
- I own a lot of music on CD, but prefer radio. Classic rock and modern pop are my two favourites, but Jazz and Classical are welcome once and a while.
- I have watched Saturday Night Live since season 1, and almost every
sketch comedy show since Carol Burnet.
- I think I've read less than 10 comic books in my life, but I did subscribe to MAD in the 70's and 80s religiously
- When I choose a favourite, I get emotionally upset if I miss a single episode or issue.
- I am single, but prefer not to be.
